This type of Forklift Truck is best suited to working in narrow aisles and as the name would suggest the forks are mounted onto the side of the forklift.
These forks can carry wide or long loads that a typical forklift truck wouldn’t be able to cope with due to inaccessibility or just simply too awkward. Side loaders are designed not to become unstable when lifting loads on the side of the truck whereas a standard counterbalance would, and so become dangerous.
The design of the truck also ensures that the operator has a clear view of what is at the front of them or beside them, which is paramount when working in narrow aisles.
There are 3 main types of side loader forklifts; the enclosed cap, the stand up version as well as the multi-way version.
The enclosed cab is usually used outdoors whereas the stand up version is best suited to use indoors. The multi-way version has wheels that all rotate by 90 degrees ensuring that maneuvering in any direction can be done with ease.
Due to the design of the side loader, they are especially ideal to moving piping, sheet materials, wood and tubing and are usually powered by diesel, LPG or propane.
